RS Gymwear has a Size Guide section on our website. Some products are a smaller fit than standard and are noted on the product description page. Leotard sizing generally isn’t comparable with street clothing, so ideally you should measure your gymnast per the size guide. We do not have a specific shorts size guide, but if you go by the ‘waist’ measurement, you should be able to find the correct size. If you are still unsure, you are welcome to get in touch with us and we can assist you.

What do you do when you've removed your sanitary/hygiene sticker from the gusset of your leotard and some sticky residue is left behind? Rest assured that this can happen occasionally, although we do understand that it can be a bit frustrating.
Below are some methods you can try. Remember that it is important to be very gentle when removing the residue to avoid damaging the fabric.
- Tape: Place a piece of tape over the residue and gently pull it off. Gently stretch the gusset & crotch fabric so the tape can grab onto the residue better. Repeat as needed until the residue is removed.
- Soap and Water: Mix a small amount of gentle dish soap with warm water to create suds. Apply the suds to the residue and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, gently rub the residue with a clean cloth until it disappears.
- Rubbing Alcohol: Dampen a clean cloth with rubbing alcohol and gently rub the sticky residue until it disappears. Rinse with cold water afterwards.
- Roll it Up: With clean fingers, rub the sticky areas back and forth so that the residue rolls into small balls that can then be picked off.
You may need to repeat the processes a few times, or try a different method if sticky residue remains. After a few wears & washes, you should find that the residue will go away on its own.
NOTE: The slower you remove the sanitary sticker, the less residue will remain on the garment.
1. Grips are worn on the middle & ring fingers, above the first knuckle. The only exception to this is Men's High Bar grips that are worn on pointer, middle & ring fingers, above the second knuckle.
2. The finger holes on new grips may feel very small, however once you are certain you have the correct size, you can gently widen the finger holes using the instructions provided with the grips. There are also instructions on how to “break in” & soften the grips.
3. Athletes might find a slight regression in skills when they first start wearing grips. This is completely normal & doesn’t last for too long. After a short while, the skills will return & possibly develop a bit faster.
4. When grips are fastened to the wrist and fingers are in the finger holes, the athlete should not be able to straighten their hands fully. It is normal to have a small curve in the hand when grips are the correct size.
5. When using new grips, be sure to tell the coach so they can catch the athlete if they ping off the bar. Chalk new grips well also; the coach may be able to assist with this if your gymnast is unsure how.
6. Grips need to be worn with some form of wrist bands under the straps to stop friction burns & for comfort.
We sell Bailie Gymnastics Grips. They are made in the USA and have been worn by gymnasts from beginners to Olympic and World medalists for over 30 years.
The dowel grips assist the gymnast with holding onto the bar and reduce hand irritation. You should check with your coach to determine if you are ready for dowel grips. Bailie grips are made in different widths and offer a variety of ways to attach the grip to the wrist. The standard width grip is the normal width for the industry and suits most gymnasts. However, for gymnasts that are younger or have smaller hands Bailie also make a narrower grip which is approximately ¼ inch narrower. Some clubs/coaches have preferences for the type of grips they want your athlete to use.
Girls / Womens Grips:
Standard width dowel grips - used by most competitive gymnasts. Available in Velcro strap and buckle styles.
Narrow width dowel grips - ¼ inch narrower than the standard width. This grip is great for first time dowel users. It allows smaller gymnasts to be able to have the advantages of a dowel grip without having too much leather in their hands.
Pre-dowel beginner grips - designed for the gymnast who is preparing for the transition to dowel grips. This narrow width, full length, pre-dowel grip has a Velcro strap to keep the grip tightly on the wrist. It will assist with the prevention of tears and rips on the hands, as well as assisting the gymnast in getting use to the feel of a full length grip in their hand.
Boys / Mens Grips:
Standard width grips: For high bar use or rings. The high bar grips have 3 finger holes and both styles are a standard width grip with a 1½” Velcro strap. Ideal for any level competitive gymnast.
We are regularly re-stocking all grips. If we do not have your size in stock, please contact us to hold a pair for you in our next shipment.
Please note: to date we have had absolutely no negative feedback on these grips. Most of the feedback has indicated that "they were very quick to break in" and "they are the best grips I have used". We love this kind of feedback :)
Testimonial - "Just to let you know the grips arrived yesterday and my daughter used them that arvo and she was very happy with them. They were soft enough to do Kip series, clear hips to hand stand, and fly aways after she wore them for 30min. She reckons they will be great after a couple of full sessions. So thanks very much again." Father of ILP7 gymnast, Torquay VIC 13/2/15
Regardless of the style of grips worn, to size a gymnast for grips, you need to measure their hand length from the base of the palm to the top of the tallest finger. Measure both hands for more accuracy. Then refer to the size guide to determine the size your athlete should wear. https://rs-gymwear.myshopify.com/pages/size-chart-and-fitting-guide
